FactaVue
Corrections
We correct our mistakes in public. Every factual correction is dated, described and flagged in the story concerned.
What we correct
We correct any factual error: a figure, a date, a name, a quotation, the attribution of a claim to its source, or a conclusion the cited documents do not support.
A typo or a slip that does not change the meaning can be fixed as a minor edit: the displayed update date then does not change.
How readers are told
The text of the story is corrected, and a dated notice is added at the end of the story, in the “Corrections and updates” section. There are three kinds of notice:
- Correction
- What was inaccurate, and what was corrected.
- Clarification
- What was clarified, and why.
- Update
- What has changed since publication: a new document, a reply obtained.
When a story is republished after a substantive change, the update date shown under the headline changes.
The notices of every story are gathered on this page. They are specific to each language: the list below is the English edition's.
Timing
We do not set a fixed deadline. A report is first checked against the sources; the correction is published as soon as the error is established.
Published notices
Corrections, clarifications and updates, most recent first.
Hugging Face incident: what the sources allow us to reconstruct
Clarification. Clarification: none of the published sources shows that any instruction prohibited the agents from using the Artifactory service to communicate. Describing this channel as "unauthorized" is METR's characterization after the fact; the instructions actually given to the agents have not been made public.
